Extracts from journal, 1834-1836, 1839 (inclusive) [microform].

The extracts, 1835-1836, include accounts of mission work and inter-tribal fighting in the Rotorua-Tauranga districts. The 1839 journal describes a journey through North Auckland up to Te Reinga. There is some account of Maori legends relating to Te Reinga.

Wade, William Richard, 1802-1891

Wade was appointed Superintendent of the Church Missionary Society mission press at Paihia and arrived at the Bay of Islands with Colenso in 1834. He then went to the new station at Tauranga (Te Papa). When war broke out in 1836, he was evacuated back to Paihia. After a dispute with the Church Missionary Society over his employment, he finally left for Tasmania in April 1840. In Tasmania, he had a long career as a Baptist minister.
